Lionsgate has long signaled interest in a fifth John Wick film, but production has not yet begun. Plans first surfaced in 2020 and director Chad Stahelski later said Chapters 4 and 5 could not be filmed back-to-back because he needed time to develop the next story.

At CinemaCon in April 2025 Stahelski said the wheels were in motion, and Lionsgate film head Adam Fogelson added that “Chad and Keanu have an idea that they think can be really exciting,” while also saying a Donnie Yen-led Caine spin-off and an animated prequel would arrive first.

With those projects pending, 2028 is the earliest the fifth chapter is likely to reach theaters. Chapter 4 closed with John executing the Marquis and appearing to die from his wounds, after which Winston and the Bowery King visit a grave marked with John’s name beside his wife Helen’s.
