J.K. Simmons' Jim Gordon: Zack Snyder's Overlooked DCEU Secret Weapon
J.K. Simmons appears as James "Jim" Gordon in 2017's Justice League and Zack Snyder's 2021 extended cut, marking the only time he brought the character to the DCEU on screen. His Commissioner Gordon is introduced as an old friend of Ben Affleck's Batman and meets the newly formed Justice League to share information about a series of kidnappings.
The two edits present the role differently. The theatrical cut is lighter and includes a brief exchange in Gotham P.D. where Gordon dismisses a suspicion that Batman may be behind Metropolis kidnappings. The Snyder Cut is darker, trims the jokes, and makes Gordon a more serious contributor to the discussion.
With barely two minutes of screen time, the scene still implies a longer history—Gordon mentions the Caped Crusader has been fighting criminals "for 20 years" in Gotham.
