Jim Carrey officially returning for How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2
A sequel to the live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas is in development, with director Ron Howard and star Jim Carrey in talks to return. The project would reunite Carrey, Howard and producer Brian Grazer, and the script is being written by Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel.
It is not yet confirmed whether the new Grinch movie will be live-action. Carrey nearly quit the original film and said he would give up a $20 million payday because he hated being in the full-body Grinch makeup. He described the suit as made of unnervingly itchy yak hair, and said long prosthetic fingers, false teeth and full-contact lenses left him barely able to move or see after an eight-hour makeup session.
Grazer enlisted the late Richard Marcinko, a U.S. Navy SEAL commander, to help Carrey learn to withstand the ordeal, and makeup artist Rick Baker said the real burden was the number of days in makeup, around 92, before sessions were reduced to about three hours.
