Jenna Ortega Stars in First Trailer for Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun
Sony Pictures released the first trailer for Klara and the Sun, with Jenna Ortega starring in Taika Waititi's adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's novel. The preview teases the book's charm and a hopeful tone without giving too much away. The story follows Klara, an Artificial Friend who spends her days in a store window and is considered outdated.
The trailer emphasizes her reverence for the sun and her longing for companionship before Josie (Mia Tharia) chooses her and brings her home. The cast also includes Amy Adams, Steve Buscemi, Aran Murphy, Harry Greenwood, Sophia Bryant-Taukiri and Natasha Lyonne.
Work on the film picked up in 2021 when Dahvi Waller was tapped to write the screenplay and Ishiguro signed on as an executive producer. Waititi joined the project in 2024 as director and producer, drawing on a history of fish-out-of-water films such as Thor: Ragnarok, Next Goal Wins and What We Do in the Shadows.
