Javier Bardem says The Simpsons inspired his Cape Fear performance
Javier Bardem steps into the role of Max Cady for Apple TV’s Cape Fear, taking on a part made famous by Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro. He said he was most inspired by Sideshow Bob from The Simpsons, joking, "I only watched The Simpsons one to be inspired, because Mitchum and De Niro's?
They are not [as] good as they say." Bardem admitted the responsibility was intimidating: "I was shaking to the bone by that responsibility, but at the same time, once I got the material, I knew it was a new take, it was a new life, it was a new approach to it.
So I just went for it and I tried to do my private homage to those performances by getting some of those beats. Like the sense of humor, the irony, things that were so present in those films and so alive, that you want to keep on going that direction, as well.
