While promoting his new TV series Cape Fear, Javier Bardem weighed in on speculation about returning for an F1 sequel. He joked, "Oh yeah. And not only that, I'm driving the car. But before that, I have to get my driving license, so it's gonna be a few years until we get that sequel." He added more earnestly, "No, I heard something [about that] as well, but not [anything] official that I can say [yes to].

The only thing that I would say is that I will be there in a minute. I would love to do that. Oh yeah, great, great crew." Bardem’s awareness of the rumors is at least a hopeful sign, but his admission that nothing official has been offered suggests a sequel is likely some way off.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said the team is working on the story and consulting Lewis Hamilton. "We're working on the story. It's really good. We're talking to Lewis Hamilton [co-producer and former Formula One driver]. We're getting it going through him and pitching him the ideas, and see what he thinks," Bruckheimer said.
