Jason Statham's 100-Minute Thriller Is Leaving Free Streaming
If you like revenge crime thrillers, Redemption (also released as Hummingbird) is a compact, 100-minute movie worth a look. Jason Statham stars as a former Special Forces soldier who wanders London's criminal underworld to avenge a woman's death, and the film blends fistfights and gunfire with quieter, more emotional moments.
Steven Knight wrote and directed the 2013 picture, which follows Joseph Smith — who prefers Joey Jones — as he lives on the streets, cares for a child, and forms an unlikely bond with a nun while his past drives him toward violence. The role gives Statham room to show a fragile, conflicted side alongside the well-shot action scenes fans expect.
The film divided critics and audiences, earning a 50% score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossing $12.6 million against a $20 million budget. Despite mixed reception, many see Redemption as an underrated entry in Statham’s filmography that emphasizes character as much as spectacle.
