Jason Momoa has left the live-action Helldivers adaptation, which remains scheduled for release on November 10, 2027. No reason for his departure has been disclosed, and Sony is searching for a new lead. Justin Lin is attached to direct from a script by Gary Dauberman, and the film is in pre-production with filming expected to begin sometime this year.

Helldivers is based on the sci-fi action video game franchise that debuted in 2015. The series reached mainstream attention in 2024 when Helldivers 2 overhauled the gameplay and quickly became one of the most popular multiplayer titles. The sequel drew direct inspiration from Starship Troopers, leaning into parody aspects while delivering blockbuster gameplay.

Momoa is currently filming a role in A Minecraft Movie Squared, which is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027.
