A new image for Supergirl offers the clearest look yet at Jason Momoa as Lobo. He sits astride his cosmic motorcycle, cigar clamped between his teeth, riding away from a landscape on fire — the 1990s comic-book Lobo intact with chalk-white skin, red eyes and a particular kind of swagger.

Director Craig Gillespie said, "I was thrilled to have him. I couldn't imagine anybody else, but it's a pressure... [we asked ourselves a] million questions to pay homage to the original." Momoa, who kept his name in the frame for years, famously sent James Gunn a two-word text when Gunn took over DC Studios: "F***ing LOBO." Milly Alcock added, "Jason had such presence.

He is Lobo. And it was exciting to see somebody living out their dream." Supergirl, out this month, dropped the "Woman of Tomorrow" subtitle but keeps the Tom King and Bilquis Evely source material, sending Kara across the galaxy on a revenge quest after a young alien, Ruthye, recruits her to hunt the pirate who killed her father, Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts).
