Jared Borgetti explains Santiago Gimenez's struggles at AC Milan
Santiago Gimenez finished the 2025-26 campaign without a Serie A goal after moving to San Siro in February 2025. He had arrived from Feyenoord with an impressive record — 65 goals in 105 appearances and back-to-back 20+ goal seasons — but managed just six goals after joining Milan and only one in the most recent season, having missed five months through injury.
Mexico great Jared Borgetti said the problems were not down to Gimenez alone. "Unfortunately, the move to Italy hasn't been a good year for Santiago," he said, pointing to the impact of injury, Milan's wider struggles and the need for a system that suits Gimenez's style.
Borgetti added that a dip in form was partly the player's, partly the team's, and that the overall atmosphere affected individual performances. Gimenez has stayed positive, saying the Milan fans have welcomed him and that playing at the club he supported as a child means a great deal.
