James Handy's girlfriend speaks after son allegedly kills 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor

Wendy Gledhill said she is in disbelief that her son, Michael Gledhill, allegedly fatally stabbed actor James Handy. “I’m just trying to make it through one day at a time, a minute at a time,” the 76-year-old said, adding that she “loved James and my son” and “can’t believe” Michael allegedly murdered Handy.

Neighbors described Michael, 44, as sometimes acting bizarre and paranoid. One neighbor said, “He looked really rugged … he looks like he doesn’t really change his clothes,” and recalled Michael asking about cameras in the house. Wendy said Michael was struggling with serious mental health issues, was diagnosed with schizophrenia in July 2025 and stopped taking his medication about a week before the killing.

Police found Handy unconscious and bleeding out on the front lawn of the Tarzana home and said he had been repeatedly stabbed in the chest. He was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.
