James Gunn confirms Man of Tomorrow set in real time — summer 2027
James Gunn has confirmed when Man of Tomorrow is set, telling a fan on Instagram Threads that the sequel is "Basically real time." He later clarified, "Real time like summer 2027," meaning the interval between Superman (2025) and the new film roughly matches the time that will have passed in Metropolis.
That fits with the DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters timeline so far, where each title appears to follow its predecessor. Peacemaker season 2 is set about one month after the first Superman movie, and the Supergirl trailer includes shots of Krypto as a puppy — younger than in the 2025 Superman — since the film will feature flashbacks.
Gunn has said Supergirl takes place "between Superman and Man of Tomorrow," which could fill some of the gaps between the two movies. The time jump helps explain a shift in Superman's relationship with Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor: the sequel will see them join forces against a new enemy.
