I've Dedicated My Life To Doctor Who — This Feels Like the End
On June 10, 2026 the BBC announced that the 2026 Doctor Who Christmas special will not be going ahead. The broadcaster also said that "in order to set the show up for future series... we are choosing to push forward to invest in the long-term future of the show," which suggests the programme will return eventually but not anytime soon.
With the confusion around Billie Piper appearing as the Sixteenth Doctor and rumours that the BBC has been struggling to find the next incarnation, I believe pausing the show is for the best. I fell in love with Doctor Who after finding Christopher Eccleston’s Ninth Doctor in 2005, and I still regard the modern era as a high point for the franchise.
I started writing fan fiction at 13, ran a dedicated Tumblr in my teens and have spent years thinking about how the show could be improved. I have a great deal of admiration for Russell T Davies and, quite frankly, hope to one day take on the role of showrunner myself.
