Is the Lego Imperial Star Destroyer perfect for adults and kids?
Lego Star Wars sets often fall into two camps: playsets for younglings or pricey display pieces for adults. One kit manages to bridge that divide: the Lego Imperial Star Destroyer. Ostensibly a playset, it carries a chunky price tag and an incredibly screen-accurate design.
It opens up to reveal a minifigure-scale bridge interior, has two spring-loaded blasters that fire green laser bolts, and includes seven minifigures — Darth Vader, a Stormtrooper and nameless Imperial baddies. That level of detail and the presence of iconic figures make the model tempting for older collectors as well.
Sealed up it looks fantastic on display and begins to approach midi-scale ships like the Lego Millennium Falcon. It sits alongside kits such as the Lego Ghost and Phantom II and the Lego Dark Falcon, which are similarly sized, offer playable interiors and plenty of interactivity, and also look impressive on a shelf.
