iOS 27 adds faster screen-time controls and content blurring for kids
Apple unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC 2026 on June 8. The upgrade is largely iterative, concentrating on bug fixes and requested features rather than flashy design changes, but the child safety additions stood out for parents. A redesigned screen time experience places quick controls along the top of the screen, so parents can pause device use, allow unlimited access, or enable a schedule without digging through settings.
Those shortcuts are intended to make managing downtime easier and are similar to Amazon Kids' parental controls. Parents can also approve websites on demand: children can request permission to visit a new site and those requests are sent through Messages. That builds on existing functionality that lets kids ask to download apps or extend time for specific apps, acknowledging that what counts as "safe" can vary by child, age and circumstance.
