Gary Dauberman has been brought on to write the next chapter of the Five Nights at Freddy's film series. Director Emma Tammi is expected to return, and franchise creator Scott Cawthon, who co-wrote the first movie with Tammi and was the sole writer on the sequel, will serve as a producer.

The franchise has proven commercially strong despite challenges. The original movie was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic and released day-and-date in theaters and on Peacock in 2023, ultimately earning just under $300 million worldwide, while last year’s sequel took in $239.6 million.

Critical reaction has been poor for both entries. The first film holds a 33% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes and the sequel sits at 17%, with reviewers particularly focused on shortcomings across the adaptations and noting that the animatronic mascots remain the primary draw.
