Monuments of Triumph is the final update for Destiny 2, and potentially the last Destiny anything. Bungie has packed as much of a conclusion as possible into it, even though the game is at the start of a new Fate saga that began with The Edge of Fate after the decade-long Light and Darkness saga ended with The Final Shape.

That new arc centers on mysterious god-like entities tied to the planets of the Sol system who have been pulling strings and even controlling time to set events like dominoes. The update includes several new quests and pieces of dialogue, but its two hidden cutscenes are the most striking.

They act as a bittersweet teaser of what was to come and an obituary for a universe we might never get to explore again. One cutscene has Zavala reflecting on the journey and retiring, passing the Vanguard's duties to Ikora. "Thank you. For walking with me all these years.
