I'm glad the new Star Fox on Switch 2 is another remake
When Nintendo announced Velan Studios' Star Fox for Switch 2, reactions split between excitement and disappointment that it was essentially another take on Star Fox 64. That division showed up in reviews — even favorable critics wanted more — and the Reddit consensus was similar.
Still, Star Fox 64 is nearly 30 years old, and Fox McCloud lacks the cultural presence of Mario or Link; rebooting the series with a beloved entry is a sensible way to bring new players in, and it worked for me. I missed the Nintendo 64 era for a mix of reasons.
PlayStation was pricier and my family favored it, so I gravitated toward bright platformers like Spyro and Crash and later picked GameCube. Star Fox Adventures introduced me to Fox; Star Fox Assault shifted the gameplay in ways I didn’t love; Star Fox Command felt like a poor prospect; I never owned a Wii U and bought a 3DS only in 2018 for Dragon Quest remakes.
