Ico and Shadow of the Colossus creator reveals gen Atlas at Summer Game Fest

The creative minds behind Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian unveiled their next project at Summer Game Fest: gen Atlas, a single-player, open-world action-adventure set on an abandoned planet. gen Atlas is the first full game from GenDesign, the studio Fumito Ueda founded after he left Sony and Team Ico in 2011 while The Last Guardian was still in development.

The project was previously revealed under the title Project Robot and teased with a moody, two-minute trailer at The Game Awards 2024; it was first hinted at in 2020, when GenDesign signed a deal with Epic Games to publish the game. GenDesign described the mystery surrounding its new action-adventure game: "Without knowing why, you awaken on an abandoned planet." The studio added, "As you journey deeper into this strange world, a colossal robot awaits.

Its overwhelming power opens paths to places once beyond reach, transforming your conception of the world.
