I, Jack Wright: a 6-Part Murder Mystery of Family and Secrets
If you want a twisty, character-driven crime drama that blends legacy drama with a locked-room family mystery, I, Jack Wright fits the bill. The six-part British series opens with the apparent suicide of brick magnate Jack Wright (Trevor Eve), then explodes when his will largely cuts out his third wife Sally (Nikki Amuka-Bird) and his two oldest sons, while leaving the bulk of the estate to granddaughter Emily (Ruby Ashbourne Serkis).
Detectives DCI Hector Morgan (Harry Lloyd) and DC Katie Jones (Liz Kingsman) soon begin to suspect foul play, and the investigation peels back layers of resentment, neglect and buried secrets. Each episode is bookended by mockumentary-style interviews set two years after Jack’s death, which deepen the mystery and keep viewers guessing about how the characters arrived at those futures.
The ensemble cast gives the series its bite.
