In the cutscene, our Guardian approaches Edge of Fate keystone Lodi, now the speaker of the Nine, and finds a different being puppeting him. Many believe this is the first proper interaction with the Winnower, the granddaddy cosmic threat of Destiny 2's Darkness.
The unknown voice insists the Nine need Guardians "because I exist," and warns of a conflict to come: "Don't worry. When it's over, I won't abandon you." Players have read the closing lines as a possible fourth-wall nod — "Take a breather. Take your libations. Let that vigor seep back into your bones.
