Hunter x Hunter confirms return with new manga volume and chapters
Volume 39 of Hunter x Hunter is set to be released in Japan on July 3.
The forthcoming volume also signals a fresh batch of chapters will appear on Shonen Jump. Hunter x Hunter began serialization in March 1998, and since 2006 Yoshihiro Togashi’s chronic back pain and reduced mobility have led to lengthy breaks. The series currently returns in "drops" of 10 chapters released roughly every two years.
Volume 38, which collected chapters 391–400, was published in Japan in September 2024, and chapters 401–410 began appearing in Shonen Jump the month after. In April, Togashi said he had completed inking up to chapter 430 and that news on their publication would come soon, so new chapters could arrive this summer if the pattern holds.
Despite its intermittent schedule, the series remains popular and influential, often cited as one of the greatest shonen manga of the past 30 years. Fans have welcomed its return and updates on the author's improving health.
