A mid-2000s crime thriller that has returned to viewers' attention is being rebooted for Hulu, and the creative team says the new version will be darker and grittier than the original broadcast series. Lukas Gage, one of the incoming leads, called the reboot "gritty," "dark," and "scary," arguing the move away from Fox allows the series to push further.

He added the show "pays homage to the old series, but it's a very new take on it," and credited writer-showrunner Elgin James, who directs the pilot, with bringing a personal angle. Emily Browning leads as Cassidy Collins, an ex-soldier turned corrections officer, while Gage plays Jackson, a politician launching his first congressional campaign.

The ensemble includes Drake Rodger, Clayton Cardenas, JR Bourne, Georgie Flores and Myles Bullock, with guest appearances by Margo Martindale, Donal Logue, Lili Taylor and Ray McKinnon. The story sits in the same world as the original brothers-on-the-run saga but does not bring Michael Scofield or Lincoln Burrows along for the ride.
