Hugh Jackman has confirmed he will play Long John Silver in Ridley Scott's new adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Jackman said he had never read or seen the story, adding, "I've never read Treasure Island. I've never seen Treasure Island. So I've heard of Long John Silver, but I had no idea." He described the project as "a slight reimagining," noting the script was sent to him by Ridley Scott.

Jack Thorne is credited as the writer, and Jackman said, "Well, I'm really interested in that," later adding, "fingers crossed we get it up and get it going. Let's see if someone will make it." Meanwhile, Jackman is currently appearing in A24's The Death of Robin Hood.

The new Treasure Island film does not sound likely to arrive soon, suggesting a wait before production moves forward.
