How to unlock and complete Oblation to get Cull's Shadow in Destiny 2

Unlocking the Oblation Exotic Mission is the trickiest part of getting Cull's Shadow. You must equip one of the Weapons of Sorrow — Thorn, Osteo Striga, Touch of Malice, or Necrochasm — then play the Scarlet Keep Strike on the Moon. At the Hashladun boss fight, pull out your Weapon of Sorrow and shoot the three green Hive symbols to lower the main gate, defeat Hashladun, and investigate the Hive crystal in the room on the right to reveal several locations on the Moon map.

Visit each marked site and use the Soulfire Network Frequency to locate a dead Syndicate trooper to examine; each trooper gives a vague clue leading to the next area. In Archer's Line the trooper sits in the central crater, after which you enter the Shrine of Oryx via the east Hive doorway.

At Anchor of Light the trooper is on top of a small northern building, then follow the path east down to the Temple of Crota. At the Hellmouth find the trooper by the main entrance and descend to the Chamber of Night.
