How to put a torch away in Gothic 1 Remake

Putting a torch away in the Gothic 1 Remake is less straightforward than lighting one. Drawing and igniting a torch is simple, but stowing it and extinguishing it isn’t made clear by the game.

There is no direct unequip option. If you try to switch items while holding a lit torch, the Hero will automatically stick it in the ground, where it continues to burn.

The only way to get a torch back into your pocket is a workaround. After you find somewhere to sleep, place the torch in the ground and take a nap; when you wake up the torch will have burnt out and you can pick it up and store it.

Out in the wild that option isn’t available. A burning torch generally won’t go back into your pocket, though you can re-equip it by picking it up; stowing it requires the sleep-and-wait method described above.
