FaceTime video messages act like voicemail for missed video calls, and FaceTime audio offers a related Live Voicemail feature. Video messages work only between FaceTime-compatible Apple devices and can come from saved contacts, people the recipient has called, or Siri-suggested contacts.

To leave a FaceTime video message, let the video call ring until it times out; the option to record appears only after an unanswered FaceTime video call. Recipients can play the message from the FaceTime call history by tapping the video thumbnail, or by selecting the person and checking Videos or Voicemails.

Messages also appear as notifications. To leave an audio voicemail, enable Live Voicemail at Settings > Apps > Phone > Live Voicemail, then place a FaceTime audio call: open FaceTime, tap New FaceTime, choose a contact and tap the phone icon. When the call goes unanswered you can leave a voicemail, and the recipient may see a live transcript while it’s being recorded.
