How Street Fighter 6 Added Tifa — and Why Guests Won’t Take Over

Fans reacted with excitement when Tifa Lockhart appeared after the three Year 4 DLC fighters on the Summer Game Fest stage. Some longtime players worried the game might turn into a carousel of guest faces, though Street Fighter 6 already featured SNK’s Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui in Year 2.

Tifa is the first Street Fighter character to originate both outside Capcom and outside fighting games. Director Takayuki Nakayama said bringing her in, alongside three brand-new characters, lets the team try “new things other titles within the series have never done” and aims to make Street Fighter approachable for players who have never experienced it before.
