'House of the Dragon' unaired season‑two episode lands this weekend
House of the Dragon returns this Sunday (June 21) with an episode that was originally intended to complete Season 2. The second season ended in August 2024 but stopped short of the Battle of the Gullet, leaving the run feeling like it lacked a proper finale; that missing installment will now arrive as part of Season 3.
The show adapts a single source, 2018's Fire & Blood, which reads as an in‑universe history rather than a straightforward novel. That format, and the limited amount of source material compared with Game of Thrones, has made it harder to decide where one season should end and the next begin.
Season 1 delivered ten episodes, but Season 2 was cut to eight relatively late in production, necessitating story reshuffling and the removal of the Battle of the Gullet from Season 2's close. Season 3 will also consist of eight episodes, a length that has been known in advance, and will include the battle that was dropped.
