The showrunner of House of the Dragon has suggested there are more dragons to come as the series continues. Based on the Targaryen civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons, the show has treated dragons as decisive weapons; by season 3 they have become near weapons of mass destruction, and Rhaenyra’s seizure of King’s Landing relied on Vhagar being elsewhere.

George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood names beasts that have not yet appeared on screen, including Grey Ghost and The Cannibal. The Cannibal is described as a ferocious, wild dragon who laired on Dragonstone and may have been older than Vhagar, while Grey Ghost was elusive and avoided people.

So far the Cannibal has only been mentioned in the series. Addressing whether those dragons might show up, Ryan Condal warned that “assumption and expectation are probably dangerous words to use in this particular world.” He added, “No, look, there’s a lot of runway left, and it is called House of the Dragon.
