House of the Dragon's third season has opened to strong critical response on Rotten Tomatoes, sitting at 97% positive with 32 reviews tallied. The series chose to postpone one of the book’s most epic clashes, the Battle of the Gullet, until Season 3, turning what some saw as an underwhelming Season 2 finale into a setup for a more explosive start.

Only four of the season’s eight episodes were made available for review, so the score could still shift ahead of the official premiere on Jun. 21. Even so, a high early rating suggests the first half has largely delivered on expectations where Season 2 left some viewers wanting.

One reviewer, Melody McCune, wrote: "While not perfect, Season 3 is leagues better than Season 2. I can overlook its imperfections (most of them) because the story and the compelling performances keep me glued to the screen. Strap in, folks.
