House of the Dragon Season 3 Review: Epic Battles Make Fast Pacing Worth It
Season 3 of House of the Dragon returns with a roar after a stumble in Season 2, plunging House Targaryen into a brutal war that leaves no one unscathed. The review covers the first four episodes, which waste no time jumping into action and push the story forward with urgency.
The Battle of the Gullet is massive in scope and scale, unlike anything attempted in the franchise. Fight sequences feel messy and chaotic yet are well‑choreographed, eclipsing last season’s Rook’s Rest and conveying the devastating fallout from George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood.
Pacing occasionally moves too quickly, with some story beats passing by before there’s time to absorb them, but the season remains significantly more engrossing and entertaining than its predecessor. Episodes 1–4 balance high‑octane action with intriguing character dynamics, even when certain moments don’t fully land.
