Long waits and behind-the-scenes controversy have shadowed House of the Dragon’s third season, but the premiere arrives determined to make an impression. It picks up directly from Season 2, after Aemond’s brutal rise and the deaths that left Rhaenyra consumed by grief and vengeance.

Backed by Daemon’s forces, Corlys’s fleet and a newly recruited band of dragonriding bastards, she now pursues an all‑out bid for the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra’s single-mindedness drives much of the episode. Her eldest son Jacaerys openly warns that Alicent may be luring them into a trap, yet Rhaenyra dismisses that counsel and doubles down on her plans; the premiere makes clear how far she will go to eliminate her half‑brothers.

At the same time, several allied campaigns move into place in anticipation of an assault on King’s Landing. Those preparations include Rhaena’s attempts to tame the wild dragon Sheepstealer in the Vale, Daemon’s campaign against the Lannisters and a nascent Stark alliance, and the growing impatience of the bastard dragonriders.
