House of the Dragon returns for its third season on June 21 with the Battle of the Gullet, the massive naval engagement drawn from George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood. The clash is widely regarded as the bloodiest naval battle in Westeros history, bringing together vast fleets and more dragons than have appeared on-screen before.

Season 2 frustrated many viewers by building toward an epic finale that never arrived. After Aemond Targaryen killed Prince Lucerys Velaryon in the season 1 finale, assassination plots, infighting and mustering forces pushed the war forward; by the end, Aegon II fled King’s Landing, Aemond became Prince Regent, and Daemon returned from Harrenhal renewed in his allegiance—yet the promised showdown was postponed.

The Battle of the Gullet is expected to provide that payoff.
