House of the Dragon season 3 episode 1 recap: who dies in the Gullet?

The season 3 premiere opens with the brutal Battle of the Gullet and uses its 65 minutes to catch up with Rhaenyra, Daemon, Alicent, Aemond, Aegon and others. The episode moves between several threads: Rhaena and the wild dragon Sheepstealer, Larys escorting a wounded Aegon, Aemond confronting the grand maester, and Daemon’s forces meeting the Winter Wolves led by Roddy the Ruin.

At sea, Corlys Targaryen and his son Alyn face the Triarchy in a bloody engagement that sends ships alight and decks slick with blood. The Sea Snake’s plan to trap Admiral Sharako Lohar in the Dragonstone pass almost succeeds, but Lohar fights through, the Queen Who Never Was begins to sink, and close-quarters combat ends with Alyn killing Lohar.

In the air, Vermax is repeatedly struck by harpoons and dragged under, and Jacaerys Velaryon is felled by three arrows.
