House of the Dragon previews Battle of the Gullet at SXSW London

House of the Dragon season 3 raised the temperature at SXSW London, where an hour-long panel screened behind-the-scenes footage and an unreleased clip from the opening episode that teases the Battle of the Gullet. Showrunner Ryan Condal said the footage came from the "early moments" of the sequence and shows Lord Corlys (Steve Toussaint) and his illegitimate son, Alyn (Abubakar Salim), on the deck of the Queen Who Never Was, before hell is unleashed.

Condal called the sequence "unlike anything ever been done on television before," and said the idea of bringing the Gullet to screen had been "haunting" him and production designer Jim Clay for "the better part" of four years. He added that the amount of construction for a single episode was "kind of crazy and frankly irresponsible, but it was necessary to tell the story." The Battle of the Gullet is one of the bloodiest moments in the Dance of the Dragons and a major inflection point in the civil war.
