Season 3 of House of the Dragon diverges sharply from Fire & Blood by folding the mysterious rider Nettles into the character of Rhaena. The show has Rhaena claim the wild dragon Sheepstealer and ride into battle, a change that reshapes her role in the conflict.

That decision quickly puts Rhaena in peril. Her untrained dragon contributes to the chaos of the Battle of the Gullet, and when Jacaerys is killed Rhaenyra blames the dragon and its rider. Rhaenyra asks Daemon to find the rider, which places Rhaena squarely in the crosshairs even if her status as Daemon's daughter complicates the threat.

Rhaena also loses the protections of her former life. Lady Jeyne Arryn sends her away in Episode 2, "Queen's Landing," and Rhaenyra's fury makes returning home impossible. Stripped of allies and privilege, she is cast into isolation and forced into a more precarious existence resembling Nettles' lowborn path.
