Both of these sausage-based delights are great for a gathering, can be prepared in advance and go really, really well with ice-cold beers. Whether your team is winning, losing, embarrassing or delighting, everyone will consider you the Cristiano Ronaldo of half-time snacks if you bang either of these out.

The Reuben(esque) hot dog is inspired by New York delis and benefits from less industrial sausages from a Polish shop. Make a pangrattato by frying sourdough breadcrumbs in olive oil until deep golden, and mix a Russian dressing of ketchup, mayonnaise, chopped gherkins, Worcestershire sauce, white-wine vinegar and Tabasco.

Boil the sausages briefly, steam the buns, grind caraway with a little salt, then assemble with dressing, sauerkraut, raw onion, caraway powder and the pangrattato for crunch. The sausage and prawn toasts combine blitzed sausagemeat with raw prawns, seasoned with soy, fish sauce, vinegar, garlic and ginger, then folded with chopped prawns, chilli and coriander.
