Hokkaido's Yotei region gets official Ghost of Yotei merchandise
Video games can act as powerful tourism draw cards, and Ghost of Yotei has prompted interest in the eponymous Yotei area of Hokkaido. The region is pushing for more visitors and is reportedly moving to sell merchandise linked to the game. Japanese outlet Nikkei reported that Niseko, a ski-resort town in the area, entered an agreement with Sony through a third-party firm to produce a line of Ghost of Yotei items.
The first iteration is a set of wooden knick-knacks from Kumagera Seisakusho, a maker of pendants, fridge magnets and other products using locally sourced timber. Those items and others, including pin badges, are emblazoned with symbols associated with the open-world game.
Promo images show a range of pieces that will encourage hardcore fans to collect them. A Niseko representative said they hope the game inspires more people to visit after seeing the area through various in-game seasons.
