'Hogwarts Legacy' Officially Fixes the Biggest Problem With Harry Potter

Hogwarts Legacy is a role-playing game released for PC and consoles in 2023. It tells a wholly original story set in the Harry Potter universe, and fans praised its hidden references and Easter eggs for letting players explore Hogwarts in ways previous adaptations did not.

Players create a custom character beginning their fifth year, choose a name and appearance, are sorted into a house, and even receive a wand at Ollivander's. Set in the Victorian era roughly a century before the main events, the game mixes classes, clubs and spells with a plot about the goblin Ranrok's rebellion, plus side quests that range from learning the Dark Arts to protecting magical wildlife and shaping a Room of Requirement.

Its map covers the whole Hogsmeade valley, the town of Hogsmeade and nearby hamlets. The game’s scope addresses a recurring criticism of the original books and films: their worldbuilding often felt too small. The Second Wizarding War sounds like a sweeping conflict, yet much of the story remained confined to the UK and Ireland.
