He-Man's New Film Tops Star Wars Release with Strong Reviews
The review embargo for Masters of the Universe has lifted, and critics have given the film a 77% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes — ahead of the latest Star Wars release, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which sits at 62%. Early red-carpet reactions were glowing, and the movie has even taken IMAX screenings from the Star Wars film.
Mattel introduced the Masters of the Universe toyline after losing the Star Wars license in the 1970s, letting rival Kenner snap it up. Critics describe the movie as a feast for the senses, with standout performances from Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto’s over-the-top Skeletor, plus a refreshing sense of humor; some reviewers do find the runtime a bit onerous.
Collider’s Victoria Luxford gave it 7/10, likening its mix of cartoon-inspired action and grounded performances to Marvel’s Thor and praising Galitzine for bringing surprising heart to the role.
