Warner Bros. Discovery announced at the Annecy Animation Festival that HBO Max has ordered Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline, a new 10-episode animated series focused on the beloved couple. The official logline says the series will follow Bubblegum and Marceline as they "journey across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering familiar faces and new dangers." The series comes from Emmy-winning Adventure Time veteran Adam Muto, who returns as showrunner and executive producer after previously leading Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake and Adventure Time: Distant Lands.

Fred Seibert and Sam Register will also serve as executive producers, with the series produced in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios. Fans long dubbed the pair "Bubbline" years before their relationship was confirmed in the 2018 finale of the original series, when the two shared an on-screen kiss.

Since then the duo's popularity has continued to grow through fan art, online communities, and appearances in later Adventure Time projects.
