HBO crime drama Task brings all-female directors to Season 2
When Task premiered last September, viewers were drawn into a dark crime drama centered on FBI agent Tom Brandis (Mark Ruffalo) and his search for a missing child. The series also examined the long-lasting effects of violence and trauma, earning a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes and promptally ending plans to keep it a miniseries after HBO greenlit a second season in November 2025.
Brad Ingelsby created and wrote the show, which in Season 1 focused on a male-dominated motorcycle gang called the Dark Hearts and themes of fatherhood and responsibility. Tom and Robbie Prendergrast (Tom Pelphrey) both grapple with their roles as fathers, while characters such as Maeve (Emilia Jones), Lizzie Stover (Alison Oliver) and Eryn (Margarita Levieva) are often caught up in the consequences of the men around them.
This week, it was announced that Season 2 will be led by an all-women directing team.
