Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond: Marvel Super Heroes set includes Hawkeye’s Bow, a Common one-mana equipment that grants an equipped creature +1/+0 and reach. The card also reads, “Whenever equipped creature becomes tapped, it deals 1 damage to each opponent,” a line that has opened a surprising line of play.

Attached to Seeker of Skybreak, the elf with a 2/1 body and an activated ability to untap a target creature, Hawkeye’s Bow becomes a two-card infinite combo using only Commons. Players can tap and untap the creature repeatedly to deal one damage to each opponent; the loop can occur naturally on turn three or on turn two with mana acceleration.

Seeker of Skybreak sees play in formats including Commander and Pauper. The interaction has already affected the market: TCGplayer lists Hawkeye’s Bow around $5 after sitting under a dollar. Gavin Verhey, principal game designer on Magic: The Gathering and member of the Pauper Council, posted a video saying the Pauper team will monitor the dual-common combo.
