Harry Kane says he was man-marked out of England's World Cup stalemate
Harry Kane opened up on a frustrating evening after England were held to a 0-0 draw by Ghana at the World Cup, admitting he was effectively man-marked out of the game and also missed a crucial late opportunity. Expectations had been high after a 4-2 victory over Croatia in which Kane scored twice, but Ghana boss Carlos Queiroz deployed a compact defensive structure that stifled England.
Kane managed just three touches inside the opposition box and struggled to find any rhythm against a deeply positioned side. The late chance arrived when Nico O'Reilly's header rebounded off the crossbar; Kane said he "couldn't quite get over the ball" but that he'd "back myself to score that more often than not," adding that "they don't always go in" and he had to accept it.
Kane also pointed to Thomas Partey being tasked with following him closely, which reduced the space to drop deep and arrive late into the box.
