Halo: Campaign Evolved release date confirmed for July 28
Halo Studios confirmed the release date for Halo: Campaign Evolved during Sunday's Xbox Games Showcase. The remake of the original Halo launches July 28 for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. It's the first Halo title since 2021's Halo Infinite. As its title suggests, Campaign Evolved remakes the single-player story of 2001's Halo: Combat Evolved.
It includes a cooperative campaign but will not feature competitive multiplayer. The game is the first Halo developed in Unreal Engine 5 and serves as a test run for the studio's development pipeline on future Halo projects. The release brings back gameplay-modifying skulls — more than in any previous Halo — and adds three new story missions under the name Operation: METEORITE.
Written by Troy Denning, the new content sends Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson behind enemy lines aboard a Covenant research vessel, starting as a smash-and-grab that becomes more complicated. The Xbox Games Showcase trailer also showed Brutes and some weapons that were not in the original Combat Evolved.
