ArenaNet said in a video blog that Guild Wars 3 won't mean the end of development for Guild Wars 2, and that the original Guild Wars will also receive updates "for the foreseeable future." "We are not replacing your favorite games. We'll be supporting them," said ArenaNet head Colin Johanson.

"We know this is not the norm, but it's something our studio has been preparing for." Johanson called back to Guild Wars 2's launch, when the final Guild Wars expansion, Eye of the North, set up the sequel and the first game was effectively phased out of active support.

He added that if the studio were going that route again, "we would have stopped development on Guild Wars 2 over a year ago." The current expansion isn't finished, and the original Guild Wars has begun getting new dungeons after years of relative silence. In the short term, Guild Wars 2 will slow while Guild Wars 3 is prepared.
