GTA 6 Won't Have Disc Copies Despite Confusing Rockstar Email

Grand Theft Auto VI will not be shipping with physical media copies. Earlier in the week, an email from Rockstar Support suggested a disc version might arrive shortly after launch, raising hopes among hard-media fans and retailers; The Hollywood Reporter says the message is genuine but poorly worded, which spawned the rumor.

THR’s source says there are no plans for discs to be printed — not at launch, and not months after. The outlet reports Rockstar’s email was referring to the already known boxed product that contains a download code, and that “the following months” meant the period after pre-order announcements, not months after the game’s release.

The misunderstanding prompted a surge of interest from hard-copy advocates and retailers. Some chains have confirmed they will not carry empty boxes, while others and some fans still plan to buy the boxed code.
