I've spent over 25 hours in Gothic Remake—20 quick tips to survive The Colony
Playing Gothic Remake for the first time can be a shock if you come from recent action-RPGs. Enemies hit hard, your starting weapons are weak and armor is scarce, so fights that feel routine elsewhere can easily overwhelm you. Progression is earned through quests, money and careful play rather than by wandering into a cave and walking out in plate.
Early survival comes down to a few simple habits: grab the bow in the Goods Exchange, save often (use quicksave with F5), and loot everything you can sell—your inventory is effectively limitless. Avoid taking on multiple foes at once, hit enemies as they charge, cook meat for cheap healing, and claim the free bed in the Old Camp to rest.
Buy the Colony map from Dexter, use NPCs to create opportunities, don’t antagonize guards, and learn magic early for powerful options like the fire bolt rune. Money and progression are tied to skills and camps. Pick up money-making skills such as smithing from Huno, lockpicking from Fingers, or hunting from Shax, or mine ore in the Old Mine with a pickaxe.
