Gothic devs monitor lockpicking backlash, promise PC crash patch by Monday
The Gothic remake has kept the series' tough reputation, and its revamped lockpicking system has left many players puzzled. A Reddit thread highlighted the confusion, and one user, Salvator-Mundi-, described the mechanic: "It is a classic puzzle. Moving one plate actually moves multiple plates.
Plates at different levels move different other plates. You have to find the order of moving the plates." Salvator-Mundi- also suggested that "they could add easier locks at the start of the game." Online editor Fraser Brown criticised the minigame, writing that it "has broken me and I can no longer experience joy … I guzzled down one of my favourite beers last night and could only taste disappointment." He added that the remake's system is still better than the original game.
